Winant Clayton Volunteers enables the annual exchange of volunteers between the UK and the USA. Every summer a group of British volunteers travel to New York City to undertake a summer of community work. At the same time a group of American volunteers come to the East End of London to do the same.
Our volunteers make a positive difference to the local communities in which they work, through motivation, hard work and enthusiasm. Living in another country for a summer gives our volunteers the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture and gain a unique insight into the lives of others.
A placement with a grassroots organisation can be challenging and often the work can be demanding. However, our placements offer supportive environments which enable the volunteers to overcome challenges, gain confidence and develop new skills. For many the summer can be a life-changing experience and a chance to make meaningful friendships which last a lifetime.
Winant Clayton Volunteers welcomes applications to the programme from individuals of all ages and backgrounds. We firmly believe in the importance of equal opportunities for all, and are keen to recruit diverse groups of volunteers.
Winant Clayton Volunteers is committed to making every effort to accommodate the needs of volunteers on the programme. Applicants with disabilities should inform Winant Clayton Volunteers of any adjustments or special requirements they may have at the earliest opportunity. Placements vary each year and certain organisations in New York may not be accessible to volunteers with disabilities.
Winant Clayton Volunteers has one member of staff. The rest of our team is made up of volunteers who are committed to keeping the programme running and fit their work for us around their full-time jobs.
Returning volunteers play a central role in the organisation by helping with the recruitment and planning of future summer exchanges. It is this alumni base that proves essential to the successful running of the charity.
